I am posting a short series of posts inspired by my forthcoming book The Lost Hospitals of Birmingham, self-published and Kindle 2016. This book presents the old hospitals of Birmingham from a genealogist's perspective and as a social history. I do seem to have covered most of this City's hospitals and it is hard to see anything of general significance which is excluded. Birmingham's current hospitals all warrant inclusion because of their history and/or earlier institutions which were located on the same site. To assist genealogy and family history research I provide links and references to archived records held by the National Archives and elsewhere, including a brief overview of the collections.
