Today, a Judicial Review will be held in 10:30am in Court 4 at the Royal Courts of Justice in the Strand which will effectively decide the future of Norton Folgate, the area situated between Bishopsgate and Shoreditch High Street on the edge of the City of London and Tower Hamlets.
The JR is being brought by the Spitalfields Trust who argue that the Mayor of London (Boris Johnson) was wrong in law to grant planning permission toBritish Land for a wholesale demolition and redevelopment which will obliterate this historic and much loved area on the edge of the City of London . This planning application was previously refused by the Local Authority. An earlier much earlier plan by British Land which would have had similar consequences was defeated in the 1970s.

The Spitalfields Trust, in partnership with Newlon Housing Trust, proposes an alternative scheme which preserves 95% of the existing buildings whilst providing 57 residential social housing units plus 57 properties for the open market and 10 live/work units.
