Real Lives: Remembering Phyllis Nicklin

(c) the Birmingham Post
Inspired by the terrific colour slide photography of 1950s and 1960s Birmingham by the late Phyllis Nicklin, former geography tutor in the Extra-Mural department of the University of Birmingham, I set off to capture some street scenes of my own. Phyllis Nicklin took hundreds of photographs of Birmingham for use in her teaching. Nearly 500 were digitised for a university project in 2005 but the webpage now appears out of use.

Recently, more of Phyllis’s photographs have been discovered and this article is recommended if I have whetted your appetite. Big thanks are due to to Brumpic who are working on getting Nicklin's work exhibited this Autumn (2015) and the Birmingham Post for their enthusiasm and publicity.

Great efforts by @BirminghamPost and @Brumpic to publish Phyllis Nicklin’s wonderful photos of 1950s and 60s Birmingham. Watch out for an exhibition this Autumn #NicklinUnseen
